How do you combine colours in a border?
Three combinations that always look good:
- Blue under yellow. Grape hyacinths as a low carpet under yellow daffodils or tulips. They flower together in April.
- White with purple. Late white tulips with purple alliums. Calm and bright, in May.
- Warm and deep. Orange and red tulips with a few dark purple ones in between. The dark shade makes the warm colours even stronger.
Plant each colour in groups of at least seven bulbs. It then stands out much better than single bulbs spread through the border. All bulbs go into the ground from September to mid-December, and you see the result in spring.
