Description
A purple-white tulip with an edge like tiny ice crystals frozen on. Delicate, fringed petals that show their finest when you look close. April, May.
San Martin belongs to the fringed tulips. In that group the petal edges are finely crimped. The effect is like lace along every petal. The flower asks to be seen up close. Purple with white, a classic pairing, very refined. Height 45 to 55 centimetres, so a good cut flower. Even a low arrangement makes a statement. Good for pots. Scented, which is unusual for a fringed tulip. In the garden it pairs well with white or more purple. It does not return of its own after flowering: one season, then done.
