Description
Warm orange double flowers like mini-peonies: luxuriant and playful at once. They open in April-May. They want a sheltered spot where they won't be knocked over by rain.
Queensday is a Double Late tulip (also called a peony tulip). But it is compact in height, around 45 centimeters. Those full petals give luxuriance without being pompous. Orange is a color that catches and plays with light: the flower almost glows. Fragrant. Plant in full sun or half shade, in well-draining soil. The caveat: the flowers are very full. Heavy rain showers can strain the stems excessively. So plant it preferably at the front of your border or against a wall. There it stands protected. Excellent as a cut flower. Bee-friendly, butterfly-friendly. Maintenance requires a bit more attention.
