Description
Deep chestnut-burgundy with velvety sheen, which explains the name. The warm heart inside stands out when the flower opens. National Velvet blooms mid-April and stands firm. Wind and rain do not trouble it.
This is a Triumph tulip, since 1923 the group for reliable, mid-season bloom. The stems are sturdy, the flowers large. They hold their own in borders and pots. In a cut bouquet they look lovely too. Soft pinks, creamy white and gentle green are beautiful neighbors, or bright contrasts for drama.
The Refined. Velvet sheen and golden heart give this burgundy-red character and depth.
