Description
White with cherry-red stripes and flames: glamorous, theatrical and conspicuous. The petals are pointed and curved, as lily-flowered tulips are. She grows to 60 centimetres on long stems, and blooms in April and May. No shy tulip, this one.
Marilyn is named after Marilyn Monroe, and the name fits. Glamorous, strikingly beautiful, and entirely of the moment. She's a lily-flowered tulip with the classic pointed, outward-curving petals. The Amsterdam Tulip Museum recommends her if you're looking for Rembrandt tulips. Those famous striped tulips come from the 17th-century tulip craze. People paid fortunes for them then. She's fragrant and good as a cut flower. In a border she works beautifully if you plant her in masses. For instance behind some soft pink tones.
