Description
In January and February: bright yellow cup-shaped flowers with a green "collar" of bracts. About 8 to 12 centimeters tall, and the very first nectar source for bees. When everything else is still gray, she is yellow.
Winter aconite is a classic stinzenplant. It has long grown on old estates and country grounds. Especially where woodland plants feel at home. It loves humus-rich, loose soil that never dries out. It prefers half-shade to full shade under trees. Plant it with snowdrops and Iris reticulata. Together they form whole yellow carpets. Dependably hardy. Plant in groups of 10 to 20. They return on their own each year, without lifting. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
