Description
One of the very earliest spring bulbs and the easiest crocus to naturalize. Whitewell Purple sows itself and even survives raking and hoeing.
This is a tommasinianus crocus, also called the peasant crocus. Once established, she stays with you. The color varies from red-purple to silver-lilac with white base and orange stamens. Easiest crocus to naturalize: sows itself and survives raking and hoeing. There are always little bulbs left that grow into new clumps. It takes more shade than most crocuses. Suitable for wooded areas, lawn and rock garden. Fragrant. The species carries the RHS Award of Garden Merit from the British horticultural society. Leave the leaf alone after flowering.
