Description
September, October: double pink blooms that really do look like water lilies. Ruffled petals in spirals, as if a florist was at work. Without leaves, straight from the ground. Blooms that deserve a second look.
Autumn crocus 'Waterlily' is a fully double form that makes a real impression. The flowers are larger, fuller, and carry many more petals than standard colchicum. Like all autumn crocus, it blooms without leaves. The foliage arrives in spring. It needs good drainage. Wet feet cause the corm to rot. Plant in groups of two to three in sunny to half-shaded spots. Hardy, and it returns on its own each year. Bee-friendly. Note: the plant is toxic. Keep it out of reach of children and animals.
