Description
Firework or sea-anemone shape. Flower stems of different lengths shoot out in every direction. Rosy-purple flowers sit at the tips. Honest fact: it forms no young bulblets. May to July, stems around 40 to 60 centimetres.
Allium schubertii is unique in form. Unequal stems create a chaos that works perfectly. Like a frozen firework, or a sea-anemone. Outstanding as a cut and dried flower. The flower skeleton stays beautiful for a long time. But it forms no young bulblets. It multiplies only by seed. After a few flowering years the bulb dies of old age. You need to know that. Give it space, also excellent in a pot. Oddity: the curved foliage dies back as the flower opens. The leaves never steal the show.
