Zwart in naam, wit in bloei
'Nigrum' betekent zwart, maar de bloemetjes zijn romig wit met een groene middennerf.
The name says 'black', but it flowers white. Each tiny flower carries a green 'bead' in its heart. A paradoxical and charming combination. May to July, stems around 70 to 90 centimetres.
Paradox: called "nigrum" (black), nicknamed "black garlic", yet flowers creamy white. Those green seed pods in the heart of each flower give it detail and charm. Easy to grow for commercial growers, so cheaper than many large-flowered alliums. We pass that saving on. Naturalises readily: produces many young bulblets each year, some of which develop into flowering bulbs. So each year more flowers. Fully hardy, suitable for white gardens and ornamental grass borders. Also a cut flower with a long vase life.
The Contradictory One. Black name, white flowers, green heart.
The bulbs come from the Dutch bulb fields. Hand selected for quality and size, and delivered at the right planting time. A larger bulb holds more food, and you see that in the flower: more blooms, and fuller.
We offer our 100% Bloeigarantie. If nothing comes up, send us a message. You will get new bulbs, or your money back.

Linnaeus doopte hem zwart vanwege het donkergroen-zwarte vruchtbeginsel midden in elk bloemetje.

Geen strakke bal maar een breed, licht afgeplat scherm vol sterretjes.
