Description
A giant globe that grows to 25 centimetres across. It is made up of loose stars pointing every which way. This is not ordinary: it is two shows in one. First the glossy purple flowers in May–June. Then three more months of golden seed heads, for free.
Christophii is better known as 'Star of Persia', and the name fits. Loose, star-shaped flowers sit on sturdy stems of 40 to 60 centimetres. Together they create a sculpture in the border. Two assets in one plant: after flowering, the seed heads remain beautiful, architecturally interesting. Fully hardy, reliably returning, and excellent as a cut flower. Place it on a sunny spot in well-draining soil.
