Size and height
Grows to about 70 - 90 cm tall. One of the darkest alliums, deep merlot purple with almost black eyes in every flower, in a half dome instead of a full globe.
Midway through May, the darkest purple globes rise from the foliage in your grouping. They draw bees and butterflies by the dozen. All through the summer you'll watch this happen again and again.
Allium atropurpureum is not just purple. It is deep red to blue-purple, a richness that photographs rarely capture. The color lives in the seed pods and stamens, which build up a subtle architecture. Standing about 80 centimetres tall, it thrives on a sunny spot. Plant it in groups of five or more; combine with roses and hardy perennials. Works as a cut flower too, with a long vase life. Later, when the flowers fall, the dried seed heads remain beautiful through the season.
The Dark Purple One. A show that builds from deep red to blue-purple.
The bulbs come from the Dutch bulb fields. Hand selected for quality and size, and delivered at the right planting time. A larger bulb holds more food, and you see that in the flower: more blooms, and fuller.
