Description
Pure white, almost starkly white. A single large flower that opens as early as March. This is one of the oldest white garden tulips still unbeaten. Nearly seventy years of the same presence in gardens.
Purissima is a Fosteriana, an Emperor tulip, and you feel it in everything. Strong wild genes in its DNA. That is why it comes back year after year. The flower opens cream-colored, then turns snow-white. Height up to 45 centimeters, perfect standard for mixed borders. Long-lasting in full bloom, much longer than most early tulips. Excellent as a cut flower, sturdy stems, lasting. Plant in sun and well-draining soil. It tolerates a little shade without complaint. Fully winter-hardy, and it asks little of you. The bulbs carry centuries of wild-tulip genetics, so durability is built in.
