Description
April to May: white with red edges, finely dentate. It looks as if you trimmed every petal edge with pinking shears. The fringed margins give Canasta more complexity than a plain white tulip. More drama, more grace.
This is a Fringed tulip, the group of dentate-edged tulips. They grow mid-height, forty-five to fifty-five centimetres. Fully visible, but not monumental. White tulips fit anywhere. This fringe makes her special enough for a dedicated spot. In front of a dark-green hedge, before dwarf conifers, or in a large pot. They love full sun; the fringe glints more in bright light. Do not plant in deep shade; the red edges fade. A cut flower? Absolutely. The fringe makes any arrangement more interesting. They do not naturalize.
