Description
Pure white petals with an intense violet-blue heart that makes passersby pause. Small, elegant, and blooming in March already. Like an alpine flower that rarely appears.
This is a botanical tulip, related to wild forms from Central Asia. A small cultivar at 15 to 25 centimetres. She returns by herself each year. The violet-blue heart is rare. Bulb trader Van Tubergen found this plant in western Iran a century ago. She does well in rock gardens, pots and borders. Plant her in groups. Watch the sun: no intense midday heat, as the leaf shrivels. Plant her in a cool, part-shaded spot. She pairs beautifully with Chionodoxa, woodland anemones, or low alpine plants. Scented.
