Size and height
Grows to about 30 - 40 cm tall. The Spanish bluebell colours partial shade in bell blue and spreads calmly by itself.
The true English bluebell: deeper blue than its Spanish cousin, elegantly nodding and scented. April, May, and the air smells of spring. This is the original.
Half shade under trees; the preference for moisture is clear. Naturalizes into thick carpets; self-seeding; bees and butterflies feel welcome. Toxic if eaten. Difference from hispanica: more elegantly nodding, deeper blue, scented. Also used to prevent mixing with wild English bluebells. Foliage disappears after flowering. Plant something in front to fill the gap.
The Scented. Deeper blue, nodding, scented and authentic.

It feels happiest in partial shade under shrubs and trees, where little else wants to grow.

Leave it in peace and it forms a denser, bluer carpet in spring year after year.
