Description
The snowdrop: white, modest, even through snow in January or February. This is where it starts for many gardeners. Simple, reliable, the same meeting year after year.
The species name nivalis literally means "of the snow". Naturalizes easily into carpets under trees; seeds itself. Half shade or full shade; any soil works; moisture-retaining helps. Scented; bees are happy. Toxic if eaten; used in small doses in medicine for dementia. Perfect for pots too; mini-bouquet cutting. Low maintenance, plant and forget.
