Description
April, May: purple with frosted blue exterior and gold rim/interior. Small, 20 to 30 centimeters. A tiny grape in fine color detail. The name means "fox grape" in Latin.
The small fritillary naturalizes well and returns in increasing numbers, but only in groups. Per flower modest and subtle. Alone she is invisible. Plant at least 10 to 20 in mass for visibility. Set them 8 to 10 centimeters deep, in well-drained soil, sun to half-shade. Rodents and deer have no interest. Fragrant. Maintenance-light once planted. A plant that doesn't grab attention in the moment, but calmly returns each year.
