Description
April, May: greenish-ivory hanging bells on tall spire, dozens in total. A fritillaria persica, but in whisper tones. 70 to 90 centimeters tall. Subtlety instead of drama.
Fritillaria persica is an architectural plant with a tall upright stem. Dozens of small bells hang elegantly downward. Plant the bulb 15 to 20 centimeters deep. Supply is scarce. A plant for anyone wanting a specialty. Plant in good-draining soil, sun to half-shade. Rodents and deer have no interest. Fragrant, excellent for cutting, naturalizes slowly. The ivory form is refinement. No drama, but presence. Keep the large bulb frost-free until planting time.
