Description
June through September: double funnel-shaped flowers in red, pink, purple, yellow, orange, and white. Ruffled effect. A fragrant, summery cloud. On elegantly curved spires.
Freesia is not winter-hardy. This is a summer bloomer you plant in March-April and harvest in June-September. The double form gives extra-full flowers with many more petals than ordinary single freesia. Fragrance is primary: fresh, peppery, lightly citrusy. Top-tier cutting flower, long vase life. Wants full sun, sheltered spot, good drainage. For anyone wanting summer to smell right: freesia is the answer. Stems may need discreet staking.
