Description
Very early in March, often still through snow, lavender-blue starflowers shoot up. Small and neat, 10 to 15 centimeters, each floret with a white heart and yellow stamens. She blooms when bees need her most.
Glory-of-the-snow is a classic naturalizer. It sows itself, and ants carry the seeds further. Small groups grow into complete carpets year after year. It loves good drainage, tolerates sun through full shade, and is utterly hardy. Plant beneath late tulips and daffodils for a layered effect. The small blue first, the big forms above. Within a few seasons you will need no planting plan. It grows where it chooses.
