How to plant them
  • When: Plant the bulbs between September and December, as long as the ground is not frozen.
  • Layout: First lay the bulbs loosely on the ground to see whether the spread looks good.
  • Planting depth: Dig holes 5 to 15 cm deep and set the bulbs with the tip pointing up. Rule of thumb: the bigger the bulb, the deeper it goes. A small crocus bulb can sit shallow, a tulip or daffodil bulb deeper.
  • Finish: Close the hole, press the soil down gently and water if the ground is dry.
  • Result: Winter does the rest. In spring the flowers come into bloom by themselves.

Quality starts with the grower.

A strong flower bulb does not just happen. Years of knowledge and experience go into it before you put it in the ground. That is why Blom looks not only at which flowers are beautiful, but at the quality they start with.

Our bulbs are grown in the Dutch bulb fields, from the heart of the bulb region, where families have passed the craft down for centuries, from parent to child. It is exactly that tradition that made the Dutch flower bulb famous worldwide.

We choose every bulb by hand, on quality and size. So your spring garden starts with a bulb that is right, grown by people who know their craft inside out.

How to plant them

This is how easily your garden comes into bloom.

No green fingers needed. In four simple steps you lay the foundation for a garden full of flowers.

Find the sun

Choose a spot in sun or partial shade. Perfect for the border, but just as lovely in pots.

Plant the promise

Push the bulbs 10 to 15 cm deep into the ground, tip pointing up. Keep 10 cm between them for a nice full flower bed.

Let winter do the work

Cover them up and let nature do the rest. Under the ground the bulbs build a strong root network all winter long.

Watch the garden wake up

In spring comes the reward. Variety after variety comes to life. All you have to do is enjoy it.

A beautiful garden starts with the bulb.

A beautiful spring garden starts with the basis: the flower bulb you plant. The size of a bulb tells you exactly how much nourishment it holds. A smaller bulb has fewer reserves, and you see that above ground: a thinner stem and a smaller, less full flower.

A bigger bulb holds more nourishment, and you can see it: a stronger base to break through the soil, and a sturdy stem with a full, robust flower.

That is why Blom deliberately chooses top-size bulbs, hand-selected for quality and size. Want to see a full, strong spring garden later on? That starts months earlier, with what you put in the ground.

Plant once, flowers all spring.

A beautiful spring garden starts in the quiet of autumn. While your garden slowly goes bare and into hibernation, something special happens underground. Invisible to the eye, strong roots grow there and get ready for spring.

Only in spring do you see the magic of the right mix. Where a standard bulb pack flowers for one week and disappears again, this mix keeps surprising you. First the early varieties wake up, then the mid-season bloomers follow, and finally the late tulips take over.

So your garden turns into a living painting for months. You plant them once in autumn and enjoy a whole spring of a garden that is constantly on the move.

Home-grown

This is how you bring your own flowers into the house.

Questions

What you may still be wondering about.

When should I plant them?
From September to mid-December, before the first real night frost. It is not the cold but wet cold that is the risk for a freshly planted bulb.
I don’t have green fingers. Will this still work?
Yes. You put the bulbs in the ground and then winter does the work. There is nothing to maintain and nothing to prune. In spring they come up by themselves.
How deep do the bulbs need to go?
About 10 to 15 cm, with the tip pointing up. Keep about 10 cm between the bulbs. That is really all you need to remember.
Can I plant them in a pot too?
Yes. Choose a pot with holes in the bottom so the water can drain away. Put the pot somewhere it won’t stay soaking wet all winter.
Where is the best place for them?
Sun or partial shade. Both work well. In a spot where water stays standing, bulbs do less well.
When will I see the first flowers?
The earliest varieties open in March. The others follow, through to May. So your garden keeps changing all spring.
How many bulbs do I plant together?
Keep about 10 cm between the bulbs. Plant them in small groups rather than in a row, so the picture looks fuller.
Will they come back next year?
The first spring is the richest. Some come back after that, but less full than in the first year. Want the same picture every year? Then plant some new bulbs in autumn.
What exactly will I receive?
60 bulbs in one mixed pack: six varieties, ten bulbs of each. You don’t have to sort anything yourself.
What if nothing comes up?
We offer the 100% Bloom Guarantee. Does a bulb not flower in its first season, even though you planted it on time and according to the planting guide? Email us your order number and, where possible, a photo. You then choose: a new bulb, credit or your money back.
What is the difference between 1, 2, 3 and 4 boxes?
Only the quantity. The more boxes, the bigger the discount: 25% for one box, 30% for two, 35% for three and 40% for four. You can see it straight away in the struck-through price.
