Description
Deepest imaginable purple that looks black in most light. A classic that has been in gardens since 1944. Large, slender flowers on tall stems. It opens in May as one of the very last tulips.
Queen of Night is a Single Late tulip. For decades it has been regarded as the "black" tulip. A collector's classic and a bestseller. But it is not actually black. It is purple so dark it appears black. In sunlight, dark burgundy glows through. Height up to 70 centimeters, dignified and impressive. Fragrant. Plant in full sun or half shade, in well-draining soil. The big caveat: dark color fades without a light background or contrasting planting. So plant it best against light green or white. Bee-friendly. Excellent cut flower. Long stems, striking in the vase. Low-maintenance.
The Mysterious. Almost black, completely enchanting.
