Crocosmia corms
Crocosmia, also known as montbretia, brings fiery colour to the late-summer garden. From August into October it sends up arching sprays of small, trumpet-shaped flowers in orange, red and yellow, on stems of 50 to 60 centimetres above long, sword-shaped leaves.
Plant the corms between March and June, about 5 centimetres deep and 20 centimetres apart, in sun or partial shade and in soil that drains well. Plant them in groups for the fullest effect. Bees love the flowers, and the sprays are also suitable for the vase.

Crocosmia is hardy, so the corms can stay in the ground over winter and flower again the following summer. A layer of mulch helps in colder spots.
